While I have not had the 10-14 jobs that are forecast for today's students, I did come to teaching later in life after working in another field. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education at a time when there few positions open for new teachers. For the next twenty-five or so years, I worked in the building materials industry as a buyer, store manager and marketing manager. After the remodeling company I worked for closed, I decided that it was a wonderful opportunity to reinvent myself. I decided to consider returning to school for a new career and while flipping through the BSC catalog, I found a description for a library media specialist. Every aspect of the position appealed to me and I - who is usually one to mull over major changes such as this - literally jumped into my car, drove to the college and signed up for the program. I feel fortunate to be a Library Media Specialist and computer teacher at the elementary school I now work at.
